Musicians Jim James and Seth Avett of My Morning Jacket and the Avett Brothers respectively have published select covers of the 90s alt-rock band Blind Melon.
Though the band is infamously known for their “Bee Girl” video to the 1993 song “No Rain,” James and Avett chose to release their covers in an effort to bring another part of the band’s history to light.
Within two years of Blind Melon receiving critical acclaim in part to the song and music video, lead singer Shannon Hoon died of a cocaine overdose after many attempts at sobriety in 1995.
Thousands of dollars short and with a deadline looming over May 5, photographer Danny Clinch and his Kickstarter campaign to fund a documentary about the late singer needs help.
That’s where James and Avett cue the music; bringing awareness to the campaign in hopes of it’s success.
