Guardians of the Galaxy will face off against Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in this year’s contest for the best visual effects Oscar. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today released the titles of the ten films that have made the shortlist and now will all contend for a nomination. The shortlist was selected by the Academy’s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee. All members of the Visual Effects Branch will view 10-minute excerpts from each of the shortlisted films in January.
