The National Portrait Gallery recently announced that this painting of pop star Katy Perry will go on view at the gallery on June 18. The portrait was completed by “New York academic portrait painter” Will Cotton and is entitled Cupcake Katy. Portrait Gallery director Kim Sajet says, “Will Cotton’s tongue-in-cheek portrait of Katy as a ‘cupcake’ brings to mind a traditional European portrait of a bewitching 18th-century belle.” The portrait will be featured as a part of a “rotating display of recently acquired portraits,” though the gallery hasn’t listed the other portraits that will be shown.
