The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has issued invitations to 322 new members to join the Oscar-granting organization — a significant increase increase in the number of new members it is welcoming this year. Last year, it invited 271 new members, but in previous years, the Academy generally repleneshed its membership roles by invited 100-plus members annually.
This year’s invitees range from recent Oscar winners like Eddie Redmayne and J.K. Simmons to new stars like Benedict Cumberbatch, David Oyelowo, Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks and Emma Stone.
