Stephen Fry said that being a heavy cocaine user for 15 years harmed his career more than his body.
Speaking at the Hay Festival to promote More Fool Me, Fry joked when his cocaine use reached its zenith in the 1980s “a large section of the Peruvian GDP went up my nose.”
While acknowledging that this addiction was expensive, wasteful and “monumentally stupid”, he also said taking cocaine in such large quantities had not done him any lasting physical damage.
Fry added it would illogical to be too self-critical about the periods of his life when he used drugs because he had still achieved a great deal as a writer, actor and broadcaster and because he was happy now.
