When American director Trey Edward Shults decided to direct his first feature film, he asked family members to help create it.
“Krisha”, shown at the Cannes festival, is based on events that happened to Shults’s family over the years and stars numerous family members. Shult’s aunt, Krisha Fairchild stars in the eponymous title role and his mother, Robyn Fairchild, is also in the film.
Shults says the movie feels so personal that he had to get his family involved, and shot the film in his mother’s house for nine days.
He adds that he would not have created the film any other way.
