Benedict Cumberbatch will soon play King Richard III in a big new BBC series, but before he does, the actor will first help rebury him on Thursday.
The Plantagenet king, who was the last king to die in battle, was killed in 1485 and buried in a hurry in the foundations of an old friary in Leicester. Richard III’s remains were later discovered underneath a parking lot in 2012. Ahead of the reburial service in Leicester Cathedral, it was revealed that Cumberbatch and the king are related. Thousands of people turned out Sunday to watch the reburial procession, lining the streets of Leicester. Richard III’s casket is in Leicester Cathedral for public viewing until the reburial.
