The pizza-loving turtles now have their own film franchise as Paramount and Nickelodeon Movies’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles opened to $93.7 million at the worldwide box office, prompting Paramount to announce a summer 2016 sequel.
Other highlights of the weekend: Marvel Studios and Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy zoomed past the $300 million mark in its second weekend, while topping the international chart. Fox’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes crossed $500 million globally in its fifth outing, and $300 million internationally.
