Tom Hardy’s Locke has not figured prominently in awards season. But the Brit got a boost when the L.A. Film Critics Association named him best actor in early December, then Brad Pitt hosted a special screening at CAA over the holidays. Pitt asked the Academy-laden audience to imagine the pitch, “We’re going to follow one guy in a car driving down a monotonous English motorway,” while gushingly calling Hardy’s performance “master class.” So what’s the connection? Hardy never has worked with Pitt, but Locke director Steven Knight is scripting the sequel to Pitt’s zombie franchise World War Z.
