Acclaimed director Mike Nichols, who won nine Tony Awards and was nominated an additional eight times, will be honored by the Broadway community on Friday night. The marquees of Broadway theaters will be dimmed in his memory for one minute on Friday night at 7:45 p.m.
Nichols, who was married to veteran ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer, died on Wednesday night, ABC News president James Goldston announced Thursday morning.
Nichols won more Tony Awards for best direction of a play than any other individual, taking home trophies for Barefoot in the Park, Luv and The Odd Couple, Plaza Suite, The Prisoner of Second Avenue, The Real Thing and Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman.
