This past weekend, the 67th Cannes Film Festival concluded. Not surprisingly, the festival continued its streak of bestowing the top prize–the Palme d’Or–on a man. Specifically, Xavier Dolan for his film “Mommy.” It’s very hard to win when there were only two women-directed films competing against 16 male-directed films. However, the Jane Campion-led jury did give the Grand Prix award–the second prize–to 33-year-old Italian writer and director Alice Rohrwacher, for her film “The Wonders.” Rohrwacher is the second woman to ever win the prize.
