Once a familiar symbol for country music, the recent civil discussion regarding the rebel flag has some acts quietly abandoning the fixture of Southern Pride.
But not all country musicians have simply laid the flag to rest.
Charlie Daniels issued a lengthy post on his website describing his interpretation of the flag, and the symbolism it represents for himself.
Daniels described the flag as a symbol of defiance and pride for those hailing from it’s specific geographic location.
He added, “that’s all it is to me and all it ever has been to me.”
Daniels further explained that he opposes racism and believes that every person deserves the same rights and advantages regardless of skin color.
He also solemnly acknowledged that the flag and it’s meaning has been adopted by hate groups which has skewed public perception at large.
