Jeremy Clarkson was not asked to return to the BBC as Top Gear presenter, the Corporation’s Director-General has said.
Lord Hall said he had “no idea what all that’s about” when asked about claims made by Clarkson that he was asked to rejoin to the programme despite his sacking earlier this year for punching a colleague.
Clarkson said he turned the offer down because someone at the corporation had compared him to Jimmy Savile.
The 55-year-old former presenter said he had been asked to return to the motoring show just days before Chris Evans was offered the job but declined the offer because “too much has gone on”.
However, speaking to the Andrew Marr programme on BBC 1, Lord Hall said: “I have no idea what all that’s about.”
