French director Jacques Audiard’s film “Dheepan” has won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The film tells the story of Sri Lankan refugees fleeing their war-torn country for a life in a French housing estate. It was a surprise choice with Holocaust drama “Son of Saul” also favoured for the top prize. That film was runner up, while Vincent Lindon won Best Actor and Rooney Mara and Emmanuelle Bercot shared the Best Actress award.
