Dick Van Patten, the always-busy TV, film and stage character actor perhaps best known as the patriarch on Eight is Enough, has died, Mashable has confirmed. He was 86, and died at a Santa Monica hospital of complications from diabetes.
By the 1970s, he was a regular player in several popular television shows, with guest appearances on I Dream of Jeannie, Happy Days, The Love Boat, Sanford and Son, The Six Million Dollar Man and Maude.
