For fans hoping that the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy will follow in the footsteps of the comic by introducing familiar characters like Iron Man or Spider-Man’s anti-hero companion Venom to the team, director James Gunn has some bad news for you: it’s not going to happen.
Talking at this weekend’s Dragon Con (as reported by Collider), Gunn said that he wants to “steer clear” of adding any other humans to the movie franchise as much as possible, preferring to make Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill the center of attention when it comes to earthlings in the series.
While this means that fans looking for the cinematic debut of Carol Danvers will have to look elsewhere — although she has long been rumored to make an appearance in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron — it doesn’t mean that Gunn is planning to keep the Guardians as such a male-dominated movie series; Collider reported that he said that there were “plenty of other [alien] women” in the comic book mythos that he planned to introduce “as soon as he could.”
