It looks like we’ll have to find another British aristocratic family to care about in 2016 after Downton Abbey ‘s final season airs. British network ITV, which produces Downton, usually airs the show in fall, followed by PBS in January. The main reason is that the cast’s contracts expire and most of the actors are ready to explore other projects. An insider noted, “You can keep the show going without Matthew and Sybill, but you can’t continue it without the entire Crawley family.”
