In an interview with Australia’s The Daily Telegraph Thursday, Ed Sheeran commented on his friend and former tour mate’s recent Twitter misunderstanding with Nicki Minaj over the rapper’s apparent snub in the Video of the Year category at the MTV VMAs. Sheeran said he believes everyone knows Swift did nothing wrong at the awards. He added that she did not nominate herself and that people enjoyed her videos. Minaj said her rant had “nothing to do” with Swift or “any of the women” nominated, but faulted a system that does not acknowledge black woman for their contributions to pop culture as quickly as it rewards others.
