Netflix announced Wednesday that its chief content officer Ted Sarandos will be honored at this year’s Gotham Independent Film Awards. The executive will be presented with this year’s industry tribute, one of four pre-announced honors handed out at the Manhattan event, set for Dec. 1 at Cipriani Wall Street. The Gotham Awards traditionally marks the official start of Oscar season, recognizing the best in independent film. Sarandos has led content acquisition for Netflix since 2000 and has recently led the effort to develop original content for the streaming service, helping it garner 31 Emmy nominations.
