An Icelandic film portraying sheep farmers in a remote valley has won the Un Certain Regard competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
The Scandinavian drama was among 19 films in the running for the Cannes prize which honors new directors and offbeat films.
Jury president Isabella Rossellini said Grimur Hakonarson’s film was being honored for “treating in a masterful, tragicomic way the undeniable bond that links all humans to animals.”
She said serving on the jury had been “like taking a flight over the planet and seeing all its inhabitants and their emotions.”
