A biblical hero, a frustrated funnyman and a befuddled detective are heading to theaters this weekend with the releases of Exodus: Gods and Kings, Top Five and Inherent Vice. In Exodus: Gods and Kings, Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Sigourney Weaver, Ben Kingsley and Aaron Paul star in director Ridley Scott’s biblical epic about Moses defying Ramses and leading the slaves out of Egypt. THR film critic Stephen Farber writes in his review that Exodus is “spectacularly filmed and intermittently well acted, though not quite as much campy fun as the [Cecil B.] DeMille version.” In Chris Rock’s Top Five, a comedian aims for a more serious career. Rock, Rosario Dawson, Gabrielle Union, Kevin Hart and Whoopi Goldberg star. According to THR film critic Jordan Mintzer’s review, the film “[piles] on one hilarious sequence after another in a barrage of hard-hitting humor that has rarely been so successfully dished out in a single film.”
