Those betting on the Mark Wahlberg -starrer The Gambler aren’t shy about trading in most of the original’s cards for a brand new hand. Director Rupert Wyatt of rebooting the 1974 film about literature professor with a gaming habit said “It’s less a story of addiction — which I don’t think I would’ve been the right guy to make — and is actually more the story of a guy who’s really in control of his life, but in so many ways, he’s just made a choice to use gambling as a means of escape.”
