14 years after the release of the cult comedy film Wet Hot American Summer, the gang at Camp Firewood is back for the Netflix prequel series, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, debuting this Friday. Once again the brainchild of The State alum Michael Showalter and David Wain, the eight-episode series reunites the huge cast in a prequel set eight weeks before the movie. This week, the day after Showalter took part in a Television Critics Association press tour panel for Netflix showrunners. During the panel, he said, “We didn’t want to take it so far that we were basically saying that whatever happened in the movie is of no consequence and that we didn’t owe it anything. We didn’t feel that way at all.”
