Miley Cyrus gets back to her synth-heavy, rock-tinged roots on the newly unearthed song “Nightmare”, though it is unclear if the song will be on her follow-up to 2013’s Bangerz.
With its guitar riff and synth-pop layers, the song sounds much closer to Cyrus’s pre-Bangerz era, vaguely reminiscent of songs off Breakout and Can’t Be Tamed. On the upbeat break-up track, she sings “It’s not how it’s supposed to be/So why’d he have to go?”
Last month, Cyrus debuted a spacey new collaboration with the Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne titled “Tiger Dreams.” The pair are currently working on a joint LP, which Coyne compared to Pink Floyd and Portishead.
