Ariel Winter’s custody battle is over. The 17-year-old actress has been emancipated, she confirmed in a tweet on Friday. The news comes about three years after her mom, Chrisoula Workman, was accused of physical and emotional abuse. Ariel was removed from Chrisoula’s home and placed in the care of her older sister, Shanelle Gray, who was named her permanent guardian. The Modern Family actress hasn’t let her family challenges define her life. During a break from filming the show’s sixth season in March, she traded glamour for slime time at the Kids’ Choice Awards, where the cast got completely covered in green goo.
