NBC is developing a real production of the fake musical featured in ill-fated TV series “Smash.”
Earlier this month, stars from the cancelled TV series reunited to put on a performance of “Bombshell the Musical, the stage show about Marilyn Monroe featured in the cult program, to raise money for charity.
The production was staged with help from fan donations, and now TV bosses have thrilled devotees by announcing plans to revive “Bombshell the Musical.”
A statement from NBC Chairman Bob Greenblatt reads, “There is a still a lot of love for Smash and a rabid fan base out there, and we’re thrilled to be able to keep the dream alive as we work towards bringing Bombshell to theater audiences.” “Smash,” which starred Katharine McPhee, Debra Messing and Anjelica Huston, was cancelled in 2013 after a two-season run.
