Whatever stigma there may have been around putting a feature film out first on Netflix, consider it obliterated. The streaming network on Monday announced that it had acquired worldwide distribution rights to War Machine, an original film starring Brad Pitt from Australian writer/director David Michôd. With an A-list actor in his prime signing on to partner with Netflix first, the streaming network has broken its last barrier to becoming a fully realized Hollywood content producer and distribution model. In a prepared statement, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said, “War Machine is a rip-roaring, behind-the-facade tale of modern war decision-makers, from the corridors of power to the distant regions of America’s ambitions.”
