New reports are suggesting that Marvel and Sony Studios have narrowed their list of Spider-Man film directors to five candidates. On the short-list are Jonathan Levine, Ted Melfi, Jason Moore, John Fracis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein, and Jared Hess. However, the report notes that this list is not all-inclusive, meaning that a few other directors could still remain in Marvel and Sony’s sights.
Each director seems qualified to bring Marvel and Sony’s Peter Parker, who will be a young high school student in the vein of the Silver Age Spider-Man tales, to life. The report also notes that the studios want Spider-Man to feel like a coming of age tale, set with “John Hughes humor” and the usual superhero tropes. The report suggest that a decision could be reached as early as next week, with Sony Head Tom Rothman making the final choice.
