New Girl fans, prepare for some major heartbreak. While Jess played by Zooey Deschanel has finally found happiness post-Nick with fellow teacher—and super hot Brit—Ryan played by Julian Morris, it sounds like happily ever after might not be in the cards for this adorable couple. When E! News caught up with Deschanel, we couldn’t help but gush over how much we are loving Jess and Ryan’s relationship. But when asked whether or not Ryan has real staying power, Deschanel revealed, “Well, the answer to that is always if that actor has a contract with our show! If they don’t have a series regular contract, then no. If you have a guest star, then you’re pretty limited to a certain number of episodes and there’s an expiration on their love story. With Ryan and Jess, long distance gets in their way. But I think Ryan and Jess have a really nice arc and it’s been fun to have some non-romantic storylines too. That’s more fun for me!
