Fans of One Direction might love the same boy band, but they don’t necessarily all share the same political views. Zayn Malik discovered this firsthand after he weighed in on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on Twitter Sunday night, posting the “#FreePalestine” hashtag to his 13 million followers. Since then, the tweet has been re-tweeted and favorited over 160,000 times. While some 1D fans voiced their appreciation for Zayn’s public show of Palestinian support, others—particularly those in Israel–were outraged, with some reportedly even making death threats against the 21-year-old Brit.
