By now we’ve all had a few days to process the announcements of the 87th Oscar nominations that came last Thursday.. Awards analyst Scott Feinberg of the Hollywood Reporter says among the unexpected nominations, he was surprised to see Bradley Cooper get nominated for Best Actor for his role in American Sniper. Cooper is starring on Broadway in the Elephant Man eight times a week. Bennett Miiler was passed over by almost every other award giving group but received a nomination for his direction of Foxcatcher. Laura Dern was recognized for her work in Wild, receiving a best supporting actress nomination. But perhaps most surprising was Marion Cotillard for her best actress nomination for her performance in the Belgian film, Two Days, One Night. It’s rare for a foreign language film to receive a mainstream nomination.
