Back in 2012, the fashion community was concerned after Saint Laurent dropped its “Yves,” went through a drastic rebranding and began offering “basic” leather jackets, plain moto boots and standard razor-sharp blazers that left fashion critics scratching their heads. But now — with punky party dresses, razor-sharp blazers, motorcycle jackets and sequin cocktail dresses with a decidedly early 80s spin — Saint Laurent is on fire. Its parent company Kering announced that brand sales have doubled since 2012. But what stood out long after we left Paris’ Le Carreau Du Temple on Monday night was the show music — a song fittingly called “Pretty Boy” by hipper-than-thou Copenhagen-based pop/punk girl group, The Felines. Saint Laurent is known for melding music and fashion with rock-inspired collections and musician-fronted campaigns.
