Actor Russell Crowe is convinced his devotion to rugby contributed to the breakdown of his marriage to Danielle Spencer.
The Gladiator star became a co-owner of his beloved side the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2006 and turned the flagging Australian team into National Rugby League (NRL) champions.
Crowe has now revealed the pressure of running the team put his nine-year marriage under strain, and he fears his love of rugby ultimately led to his split from singer/actress Spencer, the mother of his two sons.
The New Zealander tells U.S. program CBS Sunday Morning, “(The rugby) ended up not being a bad business. No, it’s not a bad business decision at all. But it’s taken a lot of work, and it’s probably cost me a marriage. That’s what happened… It took a lot of work, man, you know? It took a lot of work, and I already had an extremely busy schedule.”
