Video · Sam Smith Covers 'How Will I Know'

The 22-year-old British soul singer Sam Smith, whose new album In the Lonely Hour is on top of the charts, covered the 1985 Whitney Houston tune at Sirius XM’s studio. Of course, it’s awesome. Smith is sort of a pro at singing about being lovesick. A snippet of Smith’s cover was used in a recent episode of Grey’s Anatomy.You’ll notice he changed the lyrics of How Will I Know from “how do I know if he really loves me” to “how do I know if you really love me.” Though Smith is gay, and could have kept the lyric as “he,” the word-change makes sense after he told Fader magazine,”I’ve made my music so that it could be about anything and everybody — whether it’s a guy, a female or a goat…”
