Ian McKellen has confirmed that he is not playing Magneto in X-Men: Apocalypse.
Earlier this year, friend and co-star Patrick Stewart had apparently let it slip that McKellen would be reprising his role as the mutant master of magnetism once again for Apocalypse. But in an interview with Digital Spy, McKellen outright refuted that rumor.
He said “No, they are currently making the film and I’m not in it.” He’s not too sad about it, though. McKellen explained that he was very happy to be a part of the films but he’s doing other things now. He’s just done a film for BBC TV with Anthony Hopkins, for example. McKellen said, “There are compensations for not getting caught up in blockbusters.”
