Sony’s announcement Tuesday that it would release The Interview in select theaters on Christmas Day, less than a week after the studio said it wouldn’t proceed with the film’s planned release, quickly prompted celebratory tweets from stars Seth Rogen and James Franco, who’d both remained silent publicly after Sony’s decision last week. After Sony said it would release the film in select theaters after all, many stars took to social media to praise the move. On Twitter, Franco wrote, “The people have spoken! Freedom has prevailed! Sony didn’t give up! The Interview will be shown at theaters willing to play it on Xmas day!” His co-star Rogen also chimed in, writing, “The Interview” to screen Xmas day in Austin & Atlanta. So our free speech is finally safe again. Glad that’s over. #Sony
