Spotify on Wednesday expanded into streaming video and podcasts, the biggest expansion of the company’s content offering and its first venture beyond music. The service will include video from web-native producers like Fullscreen, Maker Studios and Tastemade, as well as more mainstream outlets including Comedy Central, ESPN and Vice, adding news, sports and comedy to the service. Spotify announced the new content and features at a splashy New York City event that featured Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer from Comedy Central’s Broad City, Tiesto, and D’Angelo. The new content includes podcasts that will integrate into the platform, including programs from Public Radio International and Slate. The new content all appears to funnel into a new a Songza-like feature that plays music and other content that matches what a person is doing during the day.
