Stephen Colbert will be funding every existing teacher grant request in the South Carolina public school system made through DonorsChoose.org, the late-night talk show host announced Thursday.
Colbert partnered with Share Fair Nation and ScanSource to fund nearly 1,000 projects for more than 800 teachers in 375 schools. Total donations for the project will come to $800,000, a substantial amount of which comes from proceeds raised by selling and auctioning off set pieces from The Colbert Report. Donors Choose is a crowdfunding website through which users can donate to various education initiatives set up by public school teachers. Teachers post projects they want to pursue in their classrooms, and if the request reaches the funding goal, that money is sent to the teachers.
