The saga continues.
If nothing else, the newly revealed title for the planned sequel to 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy let’s you know exactly that. There’s more to the story. Another chapter will be written.
Director James Gunn let slip in a conversation during Ant-Man’s press day that the next film in the franchise is called Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and there was of course some skepticism at first when he confirmed the news via Twitter.
He tweeted at Collider editor-in-chief Steven Weintraub, “Yes, the official title for the @Guardians sequel is GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2. Nice detective work, @colliderfrosty, etc! You got us!”
The tweet could be interpreted as coming off mildly sarcastically, so Gunn then took to Facebook to confirm that was indeed the title, in all its obvious glory, the title being a play on team leader Peter Quill’s Awesome Mix Vol. 1 in the film.
