The recurring theme of Terminator Genisys is “follow a straight line and don’t look back.” The movie opens with a lengthy prologue under the credits, then jumps to 1984, then finally to 2017. There’s a palpable feeling of wondering just when this movie is going to start.
When we finally get to the “main stage,” our heroes must destroy the launch of “Genisys.” It’s supposed to be a new operating system that has over a billion pre-orders and will supposedly revolutionize everything, but it just sounded a lot like iCloud. An additional wrinkle comes when a timeline variant of John Connor appears with nefarious goals.
Eventually, the movie does rev up into serviceable summer action mode. The final slugfest goes on forever, but then, they all do. To be fair, a few of the chases pop, especially when Arnold is at the center.
