There’s something familiar about the Terminator: Genisys trailer and its not the sight of Arnold Schwarzenegger wandering around with a gun like an unstoppable killing machine. Instead, it’s the fact that the movie borrows the reboot gimmick from J.J. Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek, wherein the original timeline fans are familiar with is changed by time travel, explaining away new actors in familiar roles and any and all differences between events as fans already know them and whatever happens going forward. If anything, the gimmick makes more sense in a Terminator movie than Star Trek; at least the former franchise has always been based around the ideas of time travel and changing the past to affect the future.
