Only time could get the better of John Steed. Actor Patrick Macnee died Thursday of natural causes at his home in Rancho Mirage, Calif. According to a statement on his website, Macnee died peacefully and surrounded by family. The prominent British actor was best known for his evil-scheme-fighting role on
The Avengers.
Macnee played the bowler-wearing and umbrella-toting John Steed–most famously opposite
Honor Blackman ‘s Cathy Gale and Diana Rigg’s Mrs. Peel on the 1960s TV series.
