Indie Film heavyweights are competing for the Cannes Film Festival awards this Spring.
The majority of the competition line-up for the Cannes Film Festival 2015 was announced Thursday morning, with a variety of English-language dramas represented as well as several U.S. directors – but not much of a showing from the UK.
Festival director Thierry Fremaux and president Pierre Lescure revealed the picks for the 68th edition at a packed press conference.
This year, a female director will kick off the festival for the first time. The festival announced Monday that La Tete Haute, a French drama directed by Emmanuelle Bercot, will open proceedings on May 13. The film is about the upbringing of a juvenile delinquent and stars Catherine Deneuve.
Cannes Film Festival takes place in the French coastal city from May 13 to May 24. Winners will be chosen by a jury led by the Coen Brothers.
