The Roots welcomed an unexpected guest during their Philly’s Fourth of July Jam Saturday night: Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter, who led the Tonight Show band in a rendition of Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight.” Perhaps impressed by his own prowess, Nutter ended his guest appearance with an emphatic mic drop.
The concert also featured guest performances by Miguel, Sugardland’s Jennifer Nettles and, in a surprise appearance, Cee Lo Green, who recently performed with the Roots at a David Byrne tribute concert in New York.
