The next Star Trek is due to arrive in summer 2016, with Kirk and Spock and phasers–and all the stuff you’ve come to expect from a modern Star Trek movie — except for a script by Roberto Orci. For reasons that aren’t entirely clear, the polarizing writer and producer, who was going to make “Star Trek” 13 his directorial debut after J.J. Abrams left the franchise to do Star Wars, has also fallen off writing duties. Orci apparently let it be known that he was out of the writers’ room on a message board where he’s previously ranted at disgruntled fans, saying that he’ll only be producing Star Trek from here on out. Fast & Furious director Justin Lin took over directing earlier this month, and Star Trek writing duties now apparently fall to John Payne and Patrick McKay.
