Star Wars trading cards are back — in digital form, at least. For almost as long as there have been Star Wars movies, there have been Star Wars Topps trading cards. The vintage sets from 1977 are coveted items that bring back fond memories of buying the packs at the corner store — praying, as you unwrapped the waxy packaging, that a rare one was hidden among the small stack of brightly-colored cards. These days, teens who might have collected such things are now busy staring at screens only slightly larger than trading cards. Like everything else, however, trading cards have slowly but surely made the transition to digital.
Topps reports selling 50 million digital packs last year, most of which were sports-related, which works out to as many as 10 packs a second. These digital packs have not had the vintage feel and focus of yesteryear, however — until now.
