Vince Vaughn will star alongside Andrew Garfield in the Mel Gibson-directed World War II drama “Hacksaw Ridge.”
The movie is based on the life of Desmond T. Doss, a medic and the first conscientious objector (someone who claims the right to refuse military service) to win the Congressional Medal of Honor for saving dozens of soldiers during the Battle of Okinawa. Garfield will portray Doss, a Seventh Day Adventist, who received two Bronze Stars and three Purple Hearts.
Vaughn, who stars in HBO’s “True Detective,” will play a sergeant preparing soldiers for battle. Doss’ story was the basis of the 2004 TV documentary “The Conscientious Objector.”
