Another one is now lost to time.
Folk lore and singer Guy Carawan, the infamous collaborator of Pete Seeger, has died at 87.
He died at his New Market home in Tennessee, Carawan was a Los Angeles native.
Well known for his involvement with the civil rights anthem, “We Shall Overcome,” Carawan’s efforts played part in parcel to the popularization of the gospel song while head of the Highlander Folk School in Tennessee.
According to the late Seeger, Carawan deserves credit for his role in the long-metered slow-tempo rendition.
