Empire Season 2 isn’t starting until this fall, but we have a lot of drama to look forward to — especially now that Jamal is in charge.
Even though he got the metaphorical crown at the end of Season 1, co-creator Danny Strong pointed out Friday during a panel at the ATX Television Festival that “just because you get the empire, doesn’t mean you get to keep the empire.”
Alongside co-executive producer Wendy Calhoun, they teased some changes in the 18-episode season, talked about whether they’ll bring in any big-name guest stars and gave their stance on profanity on the network drama.
One big revelation from the panel:
Strong said there will be more flashbacks and an origin story for someone in the Lyon family that will create a new dynamic.
He said, “Season 1 was ‘Who will inherit the throne?’ and Season 2 is warring kingdoms [and seeing] the kingdoms go to war over the throne.”
