At the premiere of her new movie The Falling, Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams talks about never wanting to play the ‘girlfriend’ role and proves that she is a feminist icon – on and off screen. Williams, 18, plays Lydia Lamont, a schoolgirl prone to fainting fits in The Falling, which is written and directed by Carol Morley. The film, set in 1969, also stars Maxine Peake as her agoraphobic mother, and newcomer Florence Pugh as her best friend Abbie. At the premiere Peake talked about whether the film Funny Cow, in which she’s set to co-star with Martin Freeman, has resolved its funding issues. The Falling opens in UK cinemas on April 24.
